Are Reaction Posts Even A Thing Anymore?
Jan. 1st, 2014 07:05 pmAnyway. Gut reaction: I liked it. I laughed a lot. I cringed a bit at the Moriarty scene and what the writers (and all of them, really) think of fandom, but I still laughed because how it was played. I'm trying not to overthink it.
I like Mary. Ofc, I like Amanda Abbington.
And Molly. Sweet, dear Molly. I already have some ideas for you.
And Anderson. You can't tell me that that last shot of him wasn't made specifically to be made into a tumblr reaction gif.
I'm still a little uncomfortable with all the nods to fandom. Let us have some dignity and let us keep our shame to ourselves. >.>
Is it the 5th yet?
IT'S YOU!

THANK GOD! The Molly fic situation has been dire!
Gatiss soooooooooo spent the past two years reading fanfic, but I'm okay with that. Really.

If only we could.

Date: 2014-01-02 01:03 am (UTC)Anything of note I've missed? I started reading A Subtle Art, and I'm enjoying it so far.
Re: IT'S YOU!
Date: 2014-01-02 02:13 am (UTC)Seriously, where the hell have you been?
Re: IT'S YOU!
Date: 2014-01-02 02:25 am (UTC)I tried original writing a few times, but I lose it because I get in my own way. This year has been pretty bad, as far as my mental health goes (though still not as bad as the year I didn't eat more than crackers and drink soda and smoke two packs a day because anxiety was ripping my insides to shreds and no one gave a shit; no one gives a shit now, either, but at least I quit smoking and I can eat without feeling like I'm dying).
Anyway. At least I'm not dead.

Yes. You do. We all do. Writing is THE stupidest hobby.
Anyway. At least I'm not dead.
Which, honestly, is one of the things I feared. Knowing you are alive and eating more than crackers is decidedly good news :D
Re: IT'S YOU!
Date: 2014-01-02 02:57 am (UTC)Anyway, enough morbid shit. Time for a rewatch!

Me too. Especially after the Caitlin Moran thing, it leaves all the more a bitter taste. But still: Mary, good, John shaves for Sherlock, good, Sherlock hears John's voice in his head, good. Also Lestrade!hug and Sherlock's parents

Date: 2014-01-02 05:48 pm (UTC)Personally, I don't think Gatiss had that feeling going into it. I don't want to make him into any kind of saint, but I think he just wanted some levity. And instead of being mean, I think all the things he does with the faked death scenarios are a genuine nod and wink to not only the current fandom, but the original fandom who didn't have the benefit of knowing Sherlock was coming back some day.
I'm glad it was fun and not an angst-fest. We've had two years of fic for that.
I dunno. I think if I look into it too much, though, I'm going to start hating it. It's not the same show it started out as, but there's no way it could have stayed the same, considering the popularity.
My only hope if that Moffat doesn't ruin yet another female character. Seriously, guys at the BBC, just don't let him write women anymore. It's like he has a whiteboard with words like "Cheeky! Sassy! Sexy! Clever, but not upstagingly clever!" written on it, and that's what he uses to construct a hollow candy shell over an already conventionally attractive actress. Even when he tries to give them depth, it's like soap opera depth.
Anyway, moving on...
Three more days!

Date: 2014-01-02 06:20 pm (UTC)This. All of this.
Also, I don't want Mary to be fridged. I know it happens in canon but I genuinely like her, and even though I'm a diehard Sherlock/John shipper, I don't want her to be killed so that John can have more manpain. I mean this show isn't the most progressive ever in terms of female representation (to say the least) but that would really suck, especially if it happens in the last episode and it's written by Moffat (whom I've come to resent a lot since I've actually watched the last seasons of Doctor Who)
