Looking for comm recs
Mar. 13th, 2011 05:52 amSo I'm the kind of (relatively spineless) person who tries to be nice and accommodating to everyone, all the time. When someone thinks I'm an asshole, I apologize, because I don't like knowing that I've made someone's day unpleasant. I don't air my dirty laundry because I'm the first to back down when shit gets real (yes, I'm a coward).
After reading a comment on a friend's journal and a linked post somewhere else, I've been thinking about some things more and more. Like how much I miss the fandom at large and how much fun I used to have, before I got completely turned off after a series of wank events (one of which was my mini-drama [over a tag], and it wasn't a big deal, but just one of those things you curl your lip and roll your eyes at).
So long story short, I'm going to be posting fic again eventually, and I'm looking for alternative places to do it since I don't feel very comfortable where I usually do (see how I'm still avoiding name-dropping and keeping things vague? I'm a total pussy). I realize I probably won't get as many readers as I would in a consolidated community, but them's the breaks.
So far I've joined (but not de-lurked):
221b_after_dark
glitterlock
hooperholmes
sherlockhet *
johnsherlock *
221bsherlock *
bbcsherlock *
thegamegoeson *
moriarty_hooper
* Just joined, but I lurked there when the BBC fandom was new, so I don't have a feel for them.
Have I missed any?
ETA: have added
bakerstreetfic and
shock_blanket to the list from the comments (thank you guys).
Also,
sherlockchagrin , which is by approval only (but they're not dicks about it).
(also, why are some names darker? LJ, the intricacies of posting elude me)

Date: 2011-03-13 10:26 am (UTC)Your stylesheet probably has links in your recent browser history in a different colour. Because the two on this list that I've been to recently are a lighter colour.Actually, I have no idea. Because the one I just linked to is dark.

Date: 2011-03-13 11:06 am (UTC)I've had the same problem on my masterlist post, for no apparent reason. I mean, I did the same thing for all the links in the same order. And the color change carries over, because I tried to get rid of it the last time I edited the post by deleting and re-entering the links. I'm totally illiterate in Internet past HTML for bold and italic.

Date: 2011-03-13 11:14 am (UTC)At least comment notifications seem to be working as they should be, finally. For the time being. Possibly.

Date: 2011-03-14 03:11 am (UTC)and FF.net is... meh. I don't really read fic from over there, so I wouldn't really post over there. It's also like Troll City, and my ego is pretty fragile.
And the whole thing with being nice... I think most people are, but then you get these overly-aggressive and self-entitled fuckwads that just want some kind of control over something... I've known so many people like that IRL and I just don't handle it well. (I've quit more jobs than I can count because I had asshole bosses like that) I really wish I had it in me to stand up (even on the internet), and I really admire the people who do.

Date: 2011-03-13 10:35 pm (UTC)It is still very small, but I personally feel that's a good thing--hell, I'm one of those people who posts to but doesn't even look into

Date: 2011-03-14 03:46 am (UTC)I browse sherlockbbc (one day I will get off my ass and learn how to put a link in a comment) on my friends' page just to see if there's any big news I missed (OCD much?), but that's about it. I posted when I signed up for help_nz, and will probably post when I sign up for help_japan, but only because the visibility is high.
It still feels like breaking up though, but the civil kind that means if you run into your ex at the grocery store, you still smile and exchange small talk, not the I-set-his-bed-on-fire-and-kicked-him-in-the-nuts-before-I-left kind.

Date: 2011-03-18 04:21 am (UTC)AO3 is free and pretty good, not too troll-ridden. Dreamwidth you apparently need to know a special secret handshake or have a special double secret code for and it's a lot of the same people who are on lj. FFnet is, as you say meh, but it provides archiving space.
And alas, the trolls are with us always. That's the great curse of the internet.

Date: 2011-03-19 12:33 am (UTC)Your fiction list was just the thing.
Your next project, should you choose to participate, is to daily Fed-Ex me one of those cool "This is how to optimally schedule/run your day" Supernanny charts she always makes for out of control, feral families.
Only this one is geared to an adult.
Once again, fantastic list! Also, if you get in the right frame of mind and squint, trolls can be funny. Of course they can also be psycho. Fine line.

Date: 2011-03-19 11:16 am (UTC)Here's how I schedule myself:
1. Roll out of bed.
2. Do stuff.
3. Go to bed.
I think that about covers it.
