I've never done this before since I've never done more than lurk on a comm, but I put a fic up for bid on
waltzmatildah 's Queensland flood relief auction.
You can bid here.
The specifics:
Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)
Pairings/characters: Anything goes, including characters from ACD canon not featured in the series. Be forewarned, I do have an incest squick, so Mycroft/ Sherlock would be gen only.
Requirements: $1 AUD = 100 words.
ETA: Holy crap, I got a bid! I feel like a rockstar and an upright citizen!
ETA II: The winning bidder was
xenelle , fic to follow shortly.

A quick note as to why I'm doing this.
Date: 2011-01-14 09:25 pm (UTC)I don't follow the news, period, so I didn't even know this was happening until I saw the auction. I looked it up, and since I don't have any money, I figured I could at least contribute in some way.
Back in 2006, there was massive flooding of the Delaware River. I had friends who had owned house and a flower shop that were completely destroyed. Even though they had insurance, they had to find a new place to live and a new location for the business. Friends and family did what they could, but long story short, the business never recovered and they had to fold. Their relationship didn't fair any better. Before the flood, they'd been engaged. The stresses of the aftermath drove a wedge between them, and they split within a year (and yes, break-ups are complicated and usually have multiple reasons, but I think if they hadn't lost everything, they'd still be together today).
So when I try to imagine that story, only multiplied by thousands of people experiencing the same thing, it makes me feel physically ill.
I guess I just want to put it on record that I'm not making light of the situation.
